Concept School's Social Studies Program

Our Social Studies curriculum presents content through a student-friendly periodical format supported by a robust online learning platform. Organized thematically around civics and government, geography, economics, and history, the program features hands-on and interactive lessons that are spiraled and scaffolded for student success. Integrated with English Language Arts skills, our standards-aligned and research-based approach ensures students develop a deep understanding of social studies concepts while building essential literacy competencies. The social studies disciplines of history, geography, civics, and economics are central to students' preparation for college, career, and civic life. Through the social sciences, young people develop skills transferable to success in college and careers, including critical thinking, creativity, working in diverse groups to solve complex problems, global awareness, and financial literacy. At Concept Schools, students engage with social studies curricula that are aligned to state standards and instructional mandates. Curricular resources provide a variety of primary and secondary text sources, multimedia content, inquiry-based instruction, and engaging immersive learning experiences for students that support diverse and inclusive social studies classrooms. A combination of interactive, cooperative, and research-based instructional strategies are utilized to meet the needs of all students.Through effective use of curricular resources and engaging classroom instruction, our social studies courses shape students to be civically engaged, socially responsible, culturally aware, and financially literate. Students learn to think critically, form their own opinions based on evidence, recognize perspectives and identities (including their own), and be able to reach consensus through civil discourse. Most importantly, students emerge with the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behaviors necessary to be informed and effective citizens.
