HSA Columbus Selected for Participation in the 2027 National STEM Survey

The Learners of Today Become the Leaders of Tomorrow

It is with great enthusiasm that we share the news that Horizon Science Academy Columbus High School was randomly selected to participate in the 2027 National Survey of Science, Mathematics, Computer Science, and Engineering Education (NSSME+). 

Funded by the National Science Foundation and conducted by Horizon Research, Inc., this study is a nation-wide analysis which tracks the present status of STEM education for students in grades K through 12. For 2027, Horizon Research will conduct a deep investigation into current STEM models and how efficient/effective they are for both educators and students. The study aims to address questions such as:

• What are the characteristics of the computer science/engineering/mathematics/science teaching force in terms of race, age, content background, beliefs about teaching and learning, and perceptions of preparedness?
• What formal and informal opportunities do STEM teachers have for ongoing development of their knowledge and skills?
• How are resources for STEM education distributed among schools in different types of communities?

For the 2027 study – the seventh to be conducted since 1977 – researchers will utilize the collective resources of 2,000 public and private schools, as well as approximately 10,000 K–12 teachers, throughout the United States. Among those schools and educators will be Horizon Science Academy Columbus High School, whose valuable contribution will enable analysis on a national level. 

For Concept Schools, this selection strengthens our core belief on the importance of STEM education. As leaders in our field, we wish to contribute towards the creation of a more robust and harmonious society via education, science, preparation, and contribution. We are delighted to know that our efforts will help shape the future of STEM education, not just for our immediate network schools, but also for all science, tech, engineering, and math schools and programs around the country. Our goal is to help raise the standards of expectation for students, parents, families, and communities, and to thus discover improved methodologies to help students better achieve their dreams.
