DES MOINES, IA––Horizon Science Academy Des Moines is now managing the property in partnership with New Plan Learning, the nonprofit organization that recently acquired the facility. Revenue from the building’s diverse tenants, along with hundreds of annual events held across its 700- and 3,500-seat auditoriums, two full-size gyms, and numerous meeting rooms, will substantially subsidize HSA’s mortgage, rent, and facility improvement expenses.
The building, located on 4801 Franklin Avenue, is going to drive revenue for the school and provide an even bigger space for HSA’s students to grow as budding future leaders.
“This is a huge win for the kids,” Concept Schools Strategic Growth Officer Dr. Chris Murphy said in a statement. “From the moment Horizon Science Academy Des Moines opened its doors, we envisioned being able to give this community a place they can be proud of. Securing this building as our forever home is a big step for us expanding on that vision.”
HSA Des Moines opened in 2023 as Iowa's first independent charter school. Charter schools are public schools of choice. It currently provides a top-line STEM-focused education for close to 300 PreK-5th grade students and plans to eventually offer K-12 programming.
