World Champions

Dear Concept Friends and Supporters,

On behalf of all of us at Concept Schools, I am thrilled to announce that the Kermit Crafters robotics team from Gateway Science Academy Smiley was named World Champions at the 2022 VEX Robotics World Championships recently in Dallas, TX.

With more than 10,000 teams competing from 51 countries, the VEX Robotics World Championship is the world's largest robotics competition.

518 elementary school teams qualified to compete at the World Championships through a series of local, state, and national competitions. This included three divisional champions from GSA Smiley: Kermit Crafters, Einsteins, and Dragon Hunters.

The Kermit Crafters (Max M., Atticus L., and Ganira I.) earned 1st place overall. The Einsteins (Paige H., Tessa L., Jordan S., and Bari I.) earned 6th place overall, and the Dragon Hunters (Jack L., Lance C., Kerem G., and Tarik Y.) ranked 6th in the World in Programming & Driving skills. All students are 5th-grade students.

The REC Foundation in partnership with Northrop Grumman Foundation united the world's robotics community through the VEX Robotics World Championship to celebrate STEM excellence and compete in heart-pounding competition matches.

Robotics is one of the many STEM-focused activities promoted by GSA and all Concept-network schools where we continue to change the trajectory of students' lives.

Way to go, Kermit Crafters!
