Culture that Lifts, Learning that Lasts

Concept School's Department of School Culture and Climate

At Concept Schools, the Department of School Culture and Climate ensures that every student feels seen, supported, and connected in an environment rooted in a sense of belonging. Our work centers on the whole child and is guided by equity-aligned Social Emotional Learning, restorative justice, and a multi-tiered system of supports. Through this lens, we partner with school teams to build consistent structures that strengthen teacher-student relationships, reduce exclusionary discipline, and cultivate classrooms where students are empowered to learn and thrive. Our network-wide EmpowerED initiative, Lower Suspensions, Higher Success, serves as the backbone of this work, aligning daily practices with measurable outcomes that elevate both student well-being and academic success. We focus on building adult capacity because the climate starts with the adults who shape it. Our team provides ongoing coaching for Assistant Principals of School Culture, instructional leaders, and student support teams across campuses in seven states. Through data dives, professional development, coaching cycles, and on-the-ground modeling, we help schools implement sustainable systems that are aligned with Panorama data, Skills for Success, MTSS, and restorative practices. These approaches support consistent Tier 1 structures, early Tier 2 interventions, and clear Tier 3 pathways that ensure students receive the right support at the right time. The result is a more predictable, culturally responsive climate where students remain in class, learn essential SEL skills, and build positive relationships with adults.

Restorative justice is a core pillar of our work. Partnering with national experts and trained circle keepers across the network, we cultivate restorative schools where accountability, healing, and community building replace punitive responses. Through peace circles, restorative conversations, reentry plans, and community-building practices, students learn to repair harm, strengthen trust, and take responsibility for their actions. This framework does more than lower suspensions it shifts cultures, strengthens relationships, and reinforces our belief that behavior is an opportunity to teach, not punish.

Our department’s approach is grounded in data, collaboration, and a commitment to building relationship-rich schools. Suspension rates continue to decline across campuses, while teacher-student relationship scores on Panorama rise. Schools experience more stable climates, clearer expectations, and stronger family partnerships. By aligning restorative justice, SEL, and MTSS under a unified vision, the Department of School Culture and Climate ensures that every school is equipped to support students academically, socially, and emotionally. Our mission is simple and powerful keep students in school, build cultures rooted in belonging, and prepare young people to flourish in every part of their lives.
