Former MMSA student thriving at Michigan State

Ever since he graduated from Michigan Math and Science Academy in 2019, Marvin Pride has shined as a glowing example of the effectiveness of the charter school model.

Pride, who was the weatherperson at MMSA, is currently pursuing his master degree in journalism at Michigan State University. As an active member of his community, he credits MMSA for his success in higher education.

“MMSA prepared me for MSU and how I am now,” Pride said. “One big thing that I do at MSU is student support and a really big thing I did at MMSA was student support. I did a lot of student counsel stuff and we had a senior student government so I tried to plan stuff for student government. That inspired me to do what I wanted to do at MSU.”

Like other alumni in Concept Schools’s network, Pride understands the value of making the most of one’s high school experience.

“My advice would be to take the skills you learned at MMSA and high school and apply them to college,” Pride said, “because these are some of the biggest years of your life that you start to prepare for in high school.”
