3rd Annual Concept Schools Writing Contest
Concept Schools is
proud to sponsor its
Third Annual Writing
Contest for all students
enrolled in a Concept
School. We are excited
to offer this opportunity
to be creative, to win
prizes, and to gain
recognition for your
school.
1st, 2nd, and 3rd places
will be given in 3 categories – high school
(9-12), middle school
(6-8), and elementary
(3-5).
1st Place: $100
2nd Place: $50
3rd Place: $25
*There may also be
a limited number of
Honorable Mentions awarded.
Topics:
Choose one of the following and write a short narrative about it:
- An experience where you realized that you cared very much for someone.
- An experience where you tried very hard to win or where you were successful in making a crucial catch, goal, or basket.
- An experience that made you very afraid.
- An experience that made you laugh a lot.
Your job is to create as much interest in your
story as possible. Make the reader understand and feel what you
were going through. Make the reader want to keep reading. Make the
reader come to know you as an individual person. Also, when it
comes to writing about our memories, we may not remember all the
details. If that happens, use your imagination!
Be sure to include the following
characteristics, in no particular order, in your story:
- Setting and scenes (all levels)
- People and action (all levels)
- Sensory detail and figurative language (all levels)
- Dialogue (all levels)
- Inner thoughts and feelings (middle and high school only)
- Style – voice, effective openings, effective endings, etc. (high school only)
- Signs of revision (high school only)
